Former UM standout safety Sean Taylor was shot in his Palmetto Bay home early Monday morning. Taylor is currently in critical condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper leg, possibly hitting his femoral artery. Accounts have stated that Taylor has loss a substantial amount of blood, and was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Taylor was at home with his fiance and their 1-year old daughter.
Taylor attended the University of Miami, where he was an 1st Team All-American free safety in 2003. He was drafted with the 5th pick in the first round of the 2004 National Football League draft. Taylor is known for his punishing hits and great cover technique as a safety.
Taylor led Gulliver Prep (Pinecrest) to the Class 2A State Championship in 2000. He was an all-star as both running back and defensive back, with many considering Taylor the #1 Skill Athlete in the nation.
Our prayers are with the Taylor family and friends during this difficult time.
