UConn cornerback Jasper Howard killed in on-campus stabbing
Jasper Howard, starting cornerback of the University of Connecticut Huskies, has died from wounds inflicted during an on-campus stabbing. Howard graduated from Miami Edison High School. He was 20 years old.
According to WTNH-New Haven, a fire alarm went off in the Student Union shortly after midnight, at which point a fight broke out as people were being evacuated.
Howard. Howard was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. A second person was also stabbed, but was treated and released.
The stabbing occurred hours after Connecticut upset Louisville, in which Howard played a major role in the defeat. Howard had a career-high 11 tackles in UConn’s 38-25 victory over Louisville on Saturday.
Originally from Miami, the 5-foot-9, 174-pound junior began starting for the Huskies as a sophomore, though he returned punts in 2007 as a true freshman. He was the Big East leader in punt returns in the 2008 season.
